The Surprising Ways Your Family Flourishes When You Follow Your Heart The Surprising Ways Your Family Flourishes When You Follow Your Heart

What did you want to be when you grow up?

What do you want to be when you grow up? I’m sure you were asked this question at least once when you were a youngster. When asked the question, did you have an answer at the ready, or did you need a few minutes to think about it?

We all had dreams of becoming something great, like a fireman, a teacher, or a rock star, just to name a few. I used to want to be a nun.

Well, how did you do? Maybe you never aspired to be what you set out to be or said that you would become. But then again, things change. The older we get, our tastes change, our view of the world changes, even our goals change.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of life is doing what you love. It's about pursuing a career or engaging in activities that align with your passions and interests. When you do what you love, it brings a sense of joy and fulfillment that transcends mere work or obligation. It allows you to express your creativity, utilize your skills, and make a positive impact on the world around you.

When you do what you love, you do not work in a day Unlock the magic of doing what you love for your family's wellbeing.

Most important lesson I have learned along the way

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned during my career path is to do something you love to do. Why is this important? I feel that if you enjoy what you make a living at, you end up being happy in more ways than one. Life itself becomes much more interesting and fun. You find yourself speaking passionately to others about your work.

The benefits of doing what you love are profound. Firstly, it brings a sense of purpose to your life. When you are engaged in activities that resonate with your true self, you feel a deep sense of meaning and direction. It fuels your motivation and drives you to strive for excellence. Secondly, doing what you love enhances your overall well-being. It reduces stress and promotes a healthy work-life balance. By immersing yourself in activities that bring you joy, you experience a higher level of happiness and contentment.

How I ended up doing what I love

When I was young, my mother enrolled me into a summer school of computer course. She planted early into me that my job when I grow up should be working in front of a computer so I will be in the office. So yes, I took up a Computer course and pursued my IT career. However, I also grew up in a sari-sari store ( a local convenience store in the Philippines)  and I learnt that if you want to earn money, you need to sell something. So while I was in college, I started selling. And everytime I am in need of extra cash, I look for something to sell.

Growing up being told I was ugly at school, I became passionate about self-care and beauty. So when I found an opportunity to merge my love for selling and beauty in Mary Kay, I grabbed that opportunity and even became one of the tenured Sales Director in Mary Kay Philippines.

Afterwards, I found an opportunity to merge my Sales know-how and passion for IT so I co-founded an IT Consulting firm. See, how my passions turned from a simple side hustle into my now source of income? It's amazing! Now, I get to do what I love to do.

Piece of Advice

I also know people who have turned favorite hobbies into small businesses, and have succeeded. Sure, they may have had to sacrifice a steady paycheck for their happiness, but not one of them either turned back or gave up. Their passion carried them through to success.
While no job or business is perfect, the important thing is to enjoy it, even learn from it. As I have learned from one of my mentors, " It is you who makes your business or your job perfect for you."

Well come to think of it, if you are unhappy in your current situation, why not take steps now to change it?

Somewhere out there is a job or business that is perfect for you. If you are already there, I applaud you. If not, realize that it may take some time to gure out what you really want to do, and even more time to actually get there. That’s all right! I can tell you from experience that finding and doing what you love is absolutely worth it, every step of the way. All of the research, training, and hands-on experience has made me a stronger, happier person. Feeling in charge of my own destiny...well, there just is no greater feeling.
